Lords of Strut: The Family Show

Lords of Strut: The Family Show

I had a pretty eventful start before the show even started...are you ready for a story, because here it comes.

So my plus one - mini me - had been kidnapped by his not so evil grandparents, leaving me with a ticket, going to waste. Like mumma always says, waste not want not, so I made it my mission to make sure the ticket didn't go to waste. Got off to a bad start with this, after asking a couple if they wanted it - only to get "don't you have any friends" as a reply, and with my depressing response to be "no, they'll be coming up later on" (the two of them), so clearly as I'm some kind of weirdo they politely declined. This led me to sit under a tree and question what went so wrong in my life, a bird did its business - missing me by an all too close inch - which made me instantly get up...aligning the stars, as I walked near a mother and son considering what to see first as the garden party was still being set up for the day ahead. I took my chance and asked them if they wanted my spare ticket, and they graciously accepted...making me feel like less of a lone loon, although I was still attending The Family Show loner style.

Now, on with the show, and the part you'll actually be interested in, my review. The audience were treated to some classic 80's tunes - which let's face it, are loved by the old and young that have any taste - before Ireland’s most lovable idiots hit the stage. Then the 80's soundtrack all made perfect sense, once the Lords of Strut brothers famous Seamus & Sean-tastic graced the stage, adorned in the finest of 80's-tastic tracksuits. Watching the boys, at times, was reminiscent of being in Anglia Square - watching a live Jeremy Kyle show, a technicolor attack on the eyes and ears, with the occasional storm off - and we all know people watch JK to feel better about their own lives so the audience were at ease and ready to participate pretty instantly.

The show was an emotional rollercoaster as all the best family gatherings can be, and as an audience we loved, we laughed, we cheered, we boo'd, we applauded, we laid down beats...there must have been a few of us at times thinking, you can't do that Cirque du Soleil move in them snug pants and we all certainly participated! I only wish I had someone to enjoy it with, but hey, now I've got you lovely lot...so I'm fine, really. The loveable loons will be at it again tomorrow, so bring the whole family or all your buddies...or even just yourself and prepare to dance, because if you're afraid to dance you probably have some deep psychological issues.
