Sisqo

Tonight a dragon was unleashed in our fine city.

Strolling into the LCR, just a smidge after the doors had opened, the party was already jumping. Thanks to the opening DJ, spinning all the 90’s MOBO classics - DJ Miller could’ve stayed really, because that dude was on fire.

Now the crowd are shaking their thangs, two men in black take to the stage with four ladyies who know how to bust a shape or two. Then the crowd really did go crazy as Ginuwine exploded on stage like the brightest supernova, dressed in white trousers, a white t-shirt and a red waistcoat coated in pearly glittery glory. He even sported a white glove tucked into a back pocket, which impressed me just as much as his waistcoat that would put Mr Monopoly’s to shame. Now I’d never heard a Ginuwine tune in my life, although pretty much everyone else on the dancefloor seemed to be down with his vibe. However, saying that, he did a song with the crowd, only a “shoo shoo shoo” repeat request, and we failed greatly by the look on his unimpressed face. He really got my attention by doing a rendition of When Doves Cry, finally one I knew and could get down to. As his hour long set came to an end, some lucky lady got Ginuwine’s sweaty towel...after a mini bridal bouquet throwing style scuffle, which was quite entertaining.

The filler DJ, not Miller, kept things going inbetween the acts. At this point, after Ginuwine’s hour long set, I’m mostly concerned with figuring out how long Dru Hill and Sisqo will be on stage for...is the main act only gonna have a 20 minute set? In all honesty I’m just here for one song, so as long as he’ll be on stage for longer than 5 minutes and he gets to the track I’m after, I’ll be happy, but I’m slightly concerned for everyone else that has come to see him.

Dru Hill gets an introduction from the filler DJ, along with some lights and atmospheric sounds for setting the mood. The crowd are presented with a short film celebrating the 20th Anniversary Tour, and then enter The Dru. Two guys dressed in biker blacks stroll on stage with another chap in a white hazmat looking attire and white cap...the guy in white takes his cap off, and its only bloody Sisqo ain’t it, still sporting his bleached hair and making the girls go crazy.

Then 3 more guys dressed in black hit the stage with mics in hand, because guess what - Dru Hill isn’t an actual person, oh no no no no. Dru Hill is a multi platinum selling soul, hip hop and gospel group, made up of Nokio, Jazz, Tao and of course Sisqo being their lead vocalist. Who as even I know ventured off for more of a commercial solo career as a singer and later an actor.

So all the Dru Hill classics are chimed out between the four...none of which I know, but their certainly putting on a good show. Then after 3 1/2 hours of waiting they get to the final song and with Sisqo taking the lead on stage, it can only be one thing, the Thong Song. Somehow he madw the girls go even crazier, taking off his lovely white rain mac and throwing it into the crowd, which started an actual physical fight - arms were flying everywhere, noses began gushing with blood and security even had to get involved as Sisqo had long left the stage and the LCR lights went up.

The dragon came, that dragon bumped and ground city style, so if you didn’t leave with some sweaty material, or a bit of a scrape, you definitely left laughing.
