Parading around Norwich City Centre, brandishing a fold-up chair to the sky as two gymnasts precariously balance over the River Wensum…

Follow Me, a remarkable, interactive show by Belgium duo Be Flat, was a truly unique spectacle.

Thomas Decaesstecker and Ward Mortier were asked by the Norwich and Norfolk Festival to create the special show, distinctly tailored to the city… and they certainly delivered.

Without giving too much away ahead of their second performance on Sunday 24th May at 3pm, this hour of fun is a display of incredible physical skill, humour and improvisation.

An immersive event, the venue of the Octagon Unitarian Chapel was just a starting point for this performance, with the crowd directed out onto the streets to follow in the footsteps of the pair, eventually finishing just outside the Halls of St Andrew’s Plain.

The skill of Thomas and Ward is quite remarkable; their ability to effortlessly shimmy up a Colgate lamppost and perform aerial acrobatics was jaw-dropping at points.

Comedic chemistry between the pair was plain to see, with on-going discussion in whistles, exaggerated facial expressions and body language adding to the amusement.

Those in the crowd played their part in good spirit, buying into the light-hearted nature of the event; the audience involvement a key attribute of the charm.

St George’s Street was a highly unusual scene, as passersby found themselves roped into the action, with a much larger mass there to witness the finale than the initial group at the beginning.

Be Flat are returning to Belgium after their weekend in Norfolk, and are set to continue performing across Europe, with their next outing at the KaldeArte International Street Arts Festival in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain.
