Wolf
As this show was unlike anything I have had the pleasure of seeing it feels difficult to just categorise as simply a circus act.
An hour flew by as if by magic - I didn't want the show to end! The audience were awstruck, gasping throughout at the incredible acrobatics of Wolf Troop. Their cohesion was seamless, like a stack of human dominoes, they played off each other's energies, bodies and momentum like no other was created.
As this show was unlike anything I have had the pleasure of seeing it feels difficult to just categorise as simply a circus act. There were elements of contemporary, interpretive and traditional dance woven into the performance. The movement was everything between fluid and sensual to erratic and jarring. I loved the way the performers matched the soundtrack to utter perfection with a simple flick of the wrist to a full on five person human tower into tumbling somersaults- all to an off beat which ranged in tempo and mood. It was so compelling to watch as it felt so animalistic and strange as well as ethereal and accomplished.
The gender norms were expertly subverted with a very neutral costume of black and beige which all performers wore a similar variant. The men performed scenes displaying vulnerability, flexibility; the women asserted dominance and pure physical strength like I have never seen. These roles moved and changed throughout which was so refreshing to see as it felt as though the group moved as one, as equals.
This is a truly unique show in which the physical form is pushed to its limits. The individuals shine and the group should be celebrated for displaying such an expertly choreographed performance.
This is an N&N must see.
