“If you’re here to see my vagina, you’re at the wrong show”

Ah the Spiegeltent, where all the best NNF stuff happens. Unfortunately this year there was a distinct lack of shows that seemed to be…on the fringe. Thankfully though, there was Penny. She said herself, describing her show would be difficult, and she wasn’t wrong. Imagine the anti-commercial attitude of Tyler Durden (with just as much anger), with a Warhol Factory youth. Add some LSD, an eclectic musical score, a hatred of gentrification and a love of when being alive was still dangerous and you might be close to Penny Arcade.

Part cultural commentary, part social satire, in equal parts comedy and drama, Longing Lasts Longer is 75 minutes of Penny. Talking. Singing. Ruminating. Cogitating. Shouting. Raging. While some clapped and whooped in agreement with her (I among them), others heckled their discontent. Thought provoking, yes, but more of an experience than a lecture - something to be in the middle of rather than read about.

You may not agree, or even like, everything she says, you’ll be glad you were there when she said it.
