Why would anyone stay at home and watch TV when they could be at Open for a quadruple header at £6 in advance?

First up, Horse Party, a distinctly shoegaze/post-rock trio with hints of the Delgados and The Duke Spirit. "Back to Mono” has a passing resemblance to Steve Miller’s "The Joker” if performed by Slowdive. It’s much better than that description may imply. Stand out song is "Scarlet & Blue”, a distinct slow burner. Eleanor and Seymour provide the vocals and guitar but the star of the show is drummer Shannon – crikey, she hits those drums hard.
There’s Someone In The Pond’s garage rock just get better every time I see ‘em. I’ve reviewed them here before so will just say that tonight was a triumph, the addition of a sax player a nice touch and I haven’t been this excited about a new band since I heard Nirvana’s "Blew” EP back in the ‘80’s.
Things take a Britpop-meets-grunge turn with Tied To The Mast. Well played, well written songs but just a bit... how can I say this? Well, a bit bland after TSITP. Any other night, following any other band and TTTM could have blown me away.
Dingus Khan bring a level of chaos to the stage unseen since I don’t know when. Three drummers, three bass players, electric ukulele, guitar and massed gang vocals produce stompers that could almost be Slade at their most stomping, had Slade been properly lunatic. Fantastic entertainment and highly recommended.
