Lynchpins of the Bury St Edmunds scene, Horse Party’s 'Cover Your Eyes' is the best debut I have heard for a while.

Throughout, the song-writing is of the highest standard. Ellie has a rich and powerful voice, standing comparison with Stevie Nicks. Seymour's guitar combines Reeves Gabrels with Kevin Shields and John McKay. Shannon's Ratt Scabies-meets-Jim Walker drumming is powerful but never overpowers the songs.

Single 'Clarion Call' will go down a storm at festivals, Ellie and Seymour’s guitars combining to great effect. 'Scarlet & Blue' is a timeless classic that could have been made any time in the last forty years but will always sound current. 'Inbetween' takes things a little more leftfield, coming on like Ride covering The Pop Group. Seymour takes lead vocal for the assertive indie-pop of 'Let The Man Die'.Highlight is 'What Do You Need', a gloriously raucous but controlled PJ Harvey meets Patti Smith jam, with wall-of-sound backing vocals.

There is nothing stunningly original here but there doesn’t need to be with songs and playing of such a high standard. This should be huge.Pavlis (9/10)
