Blue are back! Oh yes, The Big Reunion wasn’t just a last ditch attempt at fame from the faces, bodies and voices once loved in the 90s. After The Big Reunion’s initial tour dates selling tickets quicker than sweets in a playground, a Christmas Tour wasn’t enough to fill the bellies of some of the bands involved with the show, after their decade long hibernation. Blue were one of the bands to make the most of their revival with a new album ‘Roulette’ and a tour to boot.
Our fine city was the second stop for the lads and first sold out show of the tour. The Nick Rayns LCR was packed out with girls, guys, young, old, couples, mums and kids. The lads certainly brought a big show to the city, pumping all the energy middle aged men possibly can, into over an hour of belting out tunes and busting shapes without having to later seek medical attention. They were under the watchful eyes of the the bands choreographer - and the crowd - so the pressure was on, but they seemed to love it. They broke the night up with lots of jokes, so of course the odd stretch in between songs was forgivable.
All of the lads had a great connection with the audience, Simon chatting to a couple in the crowd, Duncan and Lee revealing a story about Lee’s low hanging balls and Anthony cracking out the jokes, so the three costume changes were also forgivable, albeit with a few pieces looking a little snug. All the songs imaginable were performed with breathtaking moves and a good light show.
Brimming over with energy, providing Lee Ryan can maintain the lung capacity of a sixteen year old, Blue as a band can surely survive.
