Young Guns – Bones (PIAS)

Young Guns, a band who have achieved so much in the space of just over 3 years, are back with their newest album, ‘Bones’. After the success of their debut album ‘All Our Kings Are Dead’, countless tours and a place on the main stage of Reading & Leeds, the bands second album really needed to cement their place on the map of British music. Bones keeps the darker themes and sounds of the bands debut but wind them in with a larger, more stadium rock sound. Songs such as opener ‘I Was Born, I Have Lived, I will Surely Die’ and title track ‘Bones’ showcase the band’s raw energy – fantastically captured by former siKth guitarist Dan Weller’s production. Their sheer versatility shines out on the more reflective melodies of ‘A Hymn For All I’ve Lost’ and ‘Everything Ends’. This mixture of hard-hitting rock and passion-filled ballads draws inspiration from Young Guns’ debut but really proves how much this band have progressed and grown musically. The record fades out with the beautiful ‘Broadfields’, a song proving that in this world of auto-tune and X-factor, some people still have the talent to produce such passionate and stunning songs.  ‘Bones’ is a commanding stride in the direction of continued success for High Wycombe 5-piece and I wish them all the luck.
