Young Guns // The Waterfront 9.10.12
Searching for a musically solid, vocally great and energy driven show? Well a Young Guns gig is just the thing for you!
Despite the words 'sold out' gracing the doors of The Waterfront on this chilly eve, Yorkshire hardcore outfit Marmozets find themselves playing to an almost half empty (or half full, depends how you see it) venue as hoards of people file straight past, making their way straight to the bar or to the smoking area. Nevertheless, the 5-piece, fronted by the fantastic Becca McIntyre, do not fail to get those paying attention on their feet and suitably excited - with some help from the foam horns being graciously thrown into the crowd. Who doesn't love a freebie? By the time Your Demise make their way onto the stage, the room is up to capacity with full attention on what the 5 piece have on offer. As soon as their heavy sound rings through the PA, the venue jumps into action and by the second song, it seems the entire teen population of Norfolk has surfed their way to the front of the now extremely rowdy crowd. The sheer energy this band radiates through their music and presence on stage is that of a headlining band and I wouldn't be surprised at seeing these very guys headlining their own shows in the larger venues of Norwich very soon! Becoming the second female fronted band of the night (insert quote about girl power here), pop-rockers We Are The In Crowd jump onstage to play us some of their infectious, sing along tunes. Despite their step away from the hardcore we've already heard tonight, the NY state-5 piece have people up and dancing along to tracks such as single 'Kiss Me Again' and actually have a heavier live show than I'd expected! Searching for a musically solid, vocally great and energy driven show? Well a Young Guns gig is just the thing for you! And tonight is no exception - the ever humble 5-piece do not fail to deliver a great show from start to finish. They hold the attention of the whole room as they thunder through track after track of epic and passion-filled songs with the seamlessness of a very talented band. Songs such as 'I Was Born, I Have Lived, I will Surely Die' have all members of the crowd united in screaming along the lyrics and having a great time. The band manages to juxtapose intense, vocally driven songs such as 'Stitches' perfectly alongside heavier, jump-around tracks 'Weight of the World' and 'DOA'. This gives a much needed sense of variation which isn't common in a lot of bands nowadays. An unexpected cover of Adele's 'Set Fire to the Rain' keeps the energy of the crowd up as the night begins to draw to a close. The band finishes with title track Bones and yet again have the room blended into one as the lyrics are sung right back at them. A fantastic night all the way from the first chug of Marmozets’ guitars all the way through to the final thank yous of the lovely Young Guns!
