Turin Brakes // We Were Here

From their first LP; The Optimist in 2001, London folk duo Turin Brakes will release their sixth album, entitled “We Were Here” on 30th September through Cooking Records. Along with this album they have also announced a 22 date UK tour in October and November, and will be playing the Norwich Waterfront on Sunday 17th November. The single “Time and Money” will be precede the album by one week and be released on 23rd September, the track seems to have a more well-rounded finish than some of Turin Brakes earlier work, but don’t worry, the classic foot-tapping beat and husky lyrics are still there, and going as strong as ever. Another song that I think deserves a mention is the penultimate track; “Erase Everything”. The sleepy sounding track has both slower instrumental and vocals, causing a lovely trance-like effect, and it’s songs like this one that stop bands like Turin Brakes from falling into the trap of an album having no variety, which is a common flaw for bands with distinctive sounds. The last track of the album, appropriately named “Goodbye” utilises nostalgic lyrics and slightly more layered sounds perfectly, creating a fuller-sounding ending to the album. Overall the album should be thoroughly enjoyable, both for long-time fans, and for those who’ve just discovered Turin Brakes.
