Marmozets// The Weird and Wonderful Marmozets

Marmozets are definitely on my to-see list.

Marmozets// The Weird and Wonderful Marmozets

One thing that has to be remembered about Marmozets is that they were first noticed when their average age was just 18, which serves as an explanation for the fact the album doesn't sound as polished as some other over-produced albums from artists who have be in the industry for years. I personally don't think that their young age works against them; their music sounds young, and I think that might be why it also sounds fun. I mean, they're brothers and sisters! It's an ultimate example of a garage band that went further than expected, and vocalist Becca MacIntyre in particular keeps the stereotypical dream alive of being the ridiculously cool lead singer of an angsty teen band.

All of this said, it can't be ignored that a few of the tracks sound sloppy, "Born Young and Free" and "Why Do You Hate Me?" for example, could have been better off not being the first two tracks, as their blatant similarity could come across as a lack of diversity rather than a development of an individual sound. I would say that the slightly more melodic tracks, like "Captivate You" and the closing song "Back to You" show off the true talent of the group more than the repetitive tracks that would make your grandma cover her ears and tut about the "youth of today".

All things considered, Marmozets are definitely on my to-see list, as a band so young and fresh would no doubt put on a fantastic show, if perhaps not one for the faint hearted... Maybe they're not super-polished yet, but that's part of the beauty of British bands that form so organically, and it's safe to say they have plenty of time to perfect their personal style.
