The Macarnos - Right Way Up EP

The release of the debut EP from this Norwich based folk trio has been a little delayed, but it’s been worth the wait. The EP sounds a little rough around the edges, with very little polishing, but that adds to its charm rather than detracts from the experience.

I first came across this band back in the summer, and it was their laid-back approach that piqued my interest. Their style at first seems lazy, but that’s just a ruse. The songs, although simple on the surface, are well structured when you dig a little further into them.

The vocals work well with the style of the music too, and the harmonies are right on point, hitting that sweet spot every time. Finishing the EP with the track Flow is pretty apt way to end, as that’s exactly what the EP does from start to finish, with one track blending seamlessly into the next.

This EP is the perfect accompaniment to a lazy afternoon in the sun, with a cool drink in your hand and the breeze on your skin. It’s something to chill out to, and it does a damned good job too.

9/10
