Pavlis reports on Day three of NS+V

Norwich Sound + Vision // 13.10.12

Despite two late nights (following two days at work), it is back to NS+V 2012. First off was the thoroughly entertaining skiffle/folk/bluegrass fusion of The Secret Sailing Club at St Lawrence’s Church.

From the sublime to the ridiculous with Wet Nuns in the Arts Centre auditorium. Despite playing intense metal/hardcore with hints of “Horror Epics” era Exploited, the duo displayed the most good-natured and entertaining banter between songs and the intensity was relieved with a tinge of electric blues. In the bar, God Damn mined a similar vein but without the humour.

Onwards to OPEN where Franko Fraize was performing his sub-Streets/Plan B thing in which I can find no merit but will probably result in a no. 1 before the year is out.  Thankfully, Public Service Broadcasting lifting things with their witty electronica, with hints of post-rock and Pathé style documentaries being both sampled and projected on the backdrop. Luke Abbott treads a similar path musically and so made for good listening. The limited visuals however made for a less than enthralling live display.

Down to the Waterfront and local lads Lost Levels in the Studio. Maybe I caught ‘em on an off night but they sounded like the Icicle Works before McNab learnt to write songs.
