Norwich Sound + Vision // 11.10.12
Pavlis at the first night of Norwich Sound + Vision 2012.
The Thursday of NS+V 2012 didn’t get off to a particularly good start in the bar of the Arts Centre with Night Engine playing what sounded like obscure Bowie and Talking Heads b-sides. Oddly, they actually sounded much better in soundcheck...
Matters picks up with the brilliant garage rock of Virals and the ‘80’s electropop stylings of Sylver Tongue in the auditorium. Back in the Bar and I managed to catch the end of AA‘s set, the one song I heard hinting at Fiel Garvie and Portishead before heading to the Hog in Armour. I can’t imagine I will ever go out of my way to see Balaclava Kid And Dad again but they made a frankly fearsome noise.
Down to the Waterfront Studio for Errors. Unfortunately, this involved Dam Mantle’s set which seemed to be a slightly faster version of Burial’s “Untrue” with extra beats and squawks. Thankfully, Errors finished things with a fantastic display of their post-rock/electronic hybrid.
