Janani FX. Volleyball. Floral Image

Its playful, colourful, and mysterious. A Bjork meets Bollywood fusion, played out to Blancmange -esque beats as Janani FX kicks it off tonight and produces an interesting and intriguing set that includes a delightful version of Monsoon’s 1982 hit, Ever So Lonely. It’s a good start to this autumnal evening, but maybe just a shame that some last-minute politics had to get in the way at its close?

Next up is London’s Volleyball and what a great session it is that they deliver, it’s both heady and mesmeric. Hooking you in straight away to their infectious Tame Impala (ish) fuzzy shoegazing melodies. They’re an absolute joy to watch and they will I am sure have won over some new followers on this quite brilliant form.

And so, to the main event. Floral Image are back in Norwich for a home coming sell out gig.

Ever since I first saw them live supporting the Inspiral Carpets earlier this year, I have been in dire need of a Floral Image fix. I have really wanted to see them again to check that they really are as good as I remember, and they don’t disappoint.

Not since Norfolk’s very own Farmers Boys in the eighties have, I felt so much excitement in a room for a local band at a Norwich venue, the place is absolutely buzzing, there’s such a great vibe in the building, with everyone in great spirits urging them on to do well.

Their psychedelic vibe is swirling heavily around the room and from the off it’s a great groove, they absolutely smash it.

All the favourite tracks get an airing as well as some of the new material.

For good measure they finish the evening with a wonderful rendition of Neil Young’s Harvest Moon, and it’s just a perfect way to wrap it all up.

The debut album is now recorded and judging by the love in the room tonight I won’t be the only one itching to hear it upon its imminent release.

They really are maturing into such a great band. These boys ooze class and are surely destined for remarkable things.

It very clearly meant an awful lot to the band to play at the NAC, and it’s fair to say that it meant just as much to us well.

Wowsa! What a night it has been, one that will live long in the memory bank for sure.

Catch them at the waterfront on December the 14th.
