Daniel Land
What a wonderful evening, it really has been a gig of quite epic proportions, that will live long in the memory bank for those of us that are in the room
Ever since I first heard that the amazing Daniel Land and his band would once again be coming back to North Norfolk, it has so been damn hard to contain the excitement! I have been looking so forward to this day for around six months, feeling much like a child that’s rather impatiently waiting for Christmas, but at last the said day is now thankfully upon us.
He was here two years ago, (also on Record Store Day) to do a very special performance in the Vinyl Vault and had promised to come back at some point to do a full live performance, so luckily for those of us that are in Town today, here they are, true to their word.
We are treated to a handful of songs in the Vault, including Echo and the Narcissus and White Chalk, With Land playing solo, just him and his electric guitar, and it’s to be treasured, it’s a real connoisseurs choice for half an hour and the best news is that we have a full gig to look forward too later on.
Daniel Land has been in the business of making music since around 2009 and now has a rich and extensive back catalogue, that’s to die for. It’s packed full of songs of such beauty, raw heartfelt emotion, real honesty and integrity and it all combines to just stir your soul and tug at your guts.
But it’s his most recent album ‘Out of Season’ that has really started to put him on the map, for it is a thing of wonder and by far the best album to have been released this past decade. It’s been on constant rotation in this household during the past two years and rather pleasingly we get to hear several tracks from it, along with some of his other classics, like Benjamin’s Room and Codeine.
If the new songs Snowdrops and Pearl Daddy, (that are both aired tonight) are anything to go by, then Land can expect to hit dizzier heights, when his next album arrives sometime in the next twelve months (all being well). Both tracks are just bouncing off of the richter scale right now, they are quite literally mind blowingly bloody brilliant. The man is in such a rich vein of form and long may that continue.
It has been truly magical to be in the land of the Land. This man is one incredibly special talent, and we have been blessed and most privileged to have been in the same room as him and his amazing band, not once but twice today. Wow, what a collective of fine and super talented musicians!
When it all comes together like this, it’s just so thoroughly absorbing and captivating. We have all been quite literally blown away by the sense of occasion, such is the dreamy landscape and deep intensity.
What a wonderful evening, it really has been a gig of quite epic proportions, that will live long in the memory bank for those of us that are in the room and will I am sure take some beating when it comes to reflecting on the gig of the year come December 2026.
The man makes music that paints a picture, like no other. It’s deeply moving, uplifting, emotional and heady all at the same time. It’s for the purists in us and I predict the growing masses too.
If you don’t know of Daniel Land, then do check him out, as you will not be disappointed.
Go and lose yourself in his wall of sound, get immersed and if you don’t like it, I may just have to give you your money back?
