Ikarus, Keo and The Extons
It was three bands for one at Voodoo Daddy’s this weekend, with The Extons headlining.
The event was organised by promoter Craig Hill from The Tilting Sky. After 18 years of creating opportunities for local talent to perform, Craig has announced his last ever show will be next month.
The night kicked off with local band, Ikarus from Suffolk. All still in high school and college, the four-piece band includes members as young as 16.
Don’t let their age throw you off, because wow they seem to know exactly what they’re doing. They were fun, vibrant, and had a unique sound which is difficult to find in an age where Australian alternative indie is a genre.
The boys amped up the crowd, and delivered an unforgettable show- I’m especially looking forward to the release of their new stuff.
I even overheard a couple of girls say how good they thought the Suffolk foursome were. A group of talented musicians to definitely look out for!
Following Ikarus was the brother-formed band, Keo. They were intense and passionate to say the least, but their song ‘Hollows’ showed a shift in their sound and explored a more acoustic anthem vibe. Imagine a cross-breed between Goo Goo Dolls and Bring Me The Horizon- that’s Keo.
Then headline act, The Extons closed the night with a bang. The alt-rock band broke the metaphorical barrier between audience and musicians as by the end of the act a handful of fans took to the stage and brought a whole new meaning to the word ‘mosh’. They already appear to have a devoted fan base and that will no doubt grow.
I’d never been to Voodoo Daddy’s but secretly tucked away down an alley on Timber Hill it was a great venue full of character!
