Ellie Dixon
Ellie played multiple new songs throughout her set, giving the audience little teasers of new music she has coming out later in the year or early next year.
After having the chance to catch up with the lovely Ellie Dixon a couple of days before her arrival in Norwich, it was an absolute delight to see her perform at Voodoo Daddy’s for Wild Paths!
Her contagiously fun personality warmed up the crowd which filled the showroom, expressing her gratitude and excitement to be performing in Norwich, with the special support of her Aunt and Uncle, who live here in the city.
This is Ellie’s first UK tour, easing her into the touring and gig life on a larger scale, after her growth through lockdown and on social media. Her stage presence was very engaging with the audience multiple times throughout her set and really connecting with the fanbase that she’s able to physically meet, all round the country, for the first time. Her chatty and genuine personality shone through, appearing comfortable up on stage, generating genuine laughter from the crowd.
A TikTok trend of hers that she brought from the screen on to the stage, is covering songs and including an original verse, written by herself. The combination of the upbeat classics with the insert of her own, relatable and punny lyrics were extremely popular with the crowd, executing them all beautifully along with an altered, but well suited, melody. Firstly, giving us the R&B classic ’No Scrubs’ by TLC and then onto a remix she is extremely proud of, currently sitting at 13.1 million views on TikTok, was ’Toxic’ by Britney Spears.
Her talents went beyond just singing, as she was a one-woman band all night, playing the keyboard, guitar, and ukulele, also recording beats, and looping them for songs, right there on stage!

A highlight of the show for me was Ellie playing one of her new and unreleased songs, called ‘Godzilla’. In an interview prior to her show, Ellie spoke about the importance of a message within her songs and how they’re always inspired by current life events and with no exception, this one was too. Talking about herself struggling with anxiety, which influenced her to write this song, about feeling like Godzilla and being bigger than your anxiety, worries and fears. I loved this song and am highly anticipating its release in the future!
An unreleased but popular song of hers, with a real niche, is her song ‘Biscuit’! No hidden meaning, but the result of a dare between friends. For this unorthodox song, there had to be something slightly unusual to accompany it. Left with no disappointment, as she began to throw biscuits into the crowd, Oreos to be specific, which was received well, as typically free biscuits are.
Also making its live debut, was her most recent release, ‘Swing’, having only been dropped 5 days ago, on Friday the 7th of October. This song made a large entrance on the stage and the delivery of this song would not have been complete without throwing inflatable baseballs into the crowd too.
After her energetic 45-minute set, she left the stage with a huge round of applause and calls of appraisal, but not for long. It took less than a minute before the classic encore chant broke out and she returned to the stage in a change of outfit, but not just any old outfit, an inflatable astronaut costume! She ended her set with her single ‘Space’ (hence the attire) which was the prefect song to end a wonderful evening full of talent.
Ellie’s tour merchandise stood out to me, not only for its wonderful logo and design, but the consideration of sustainability within the design too, an element which is increasingly important within fashion and textile garments. All tote bags and t-shirts being sold, were pre-loved, second-hand garments, sourced from local charity shops in Norwich, with her design and logo printed onto them. On top of this, all proceeds and profits were donated to charity, which is incredibly generous and selfless of Ellie and her team!
Her entire performance was genuinely so amazing to watch, her bubbly persona charmed and entertained the crowd in-between songs, and her music was just fabulous!
