Demented Are Go // Norwich Arts Centre, 30.11.12

After playing and recording music-to-go-crazy-by for almost thirty years Demented Are Go have a strong following. The punkabilly four piece attract rockers, punks and rockabillies alike with their brand of energetic and original rock 'n' roll horror-inspired punk. The current tour was in support of their new album 'Welcome Back To insanity Hall' released via People Like You Records, and despite initial worries the Welsh crew drew a decent crowd.

The whole band looked like a bunch of mohicaned reprobates who'd lost a fight with a group of rampaging B-movie zombies, and they stayed in character throughout the gig. Lead singer Sparky spoke with a snarling American accent while the other three members leaped about the stage in a frenzy. With fake blood dripping from their 'wounds' the band tore through classic tunes like 'Bodies In The Basement' with the precision of seasoned pros but the fervor of a teenage garage band. The audience was a mix of young and...not so young and made up of wedges, quiffs and whirling arms in the mosh pit.

Despite a few overly aggressive fans in the crowd the night was simply awesome - a proper punk rock show. The combination of the band's look, attitude and unstoppable sound made DAG one of the best gigs in the psychobilly scene Norwich has had this year. With that kind of live chemistry these guys will always have a following to play to.
