BBC RADIO ONE'S BIG WEEKEND IS COMING TO NORWICH!!!
BBC Radio 1’s Nick Grimshaw today announced that global superstar and seven-time Grammy winner Taylor Swift will perform at Radio 1’s Big Weekend 2015. The Radio 1 Breakfast Show host made the announcement live on air this morning, revealing that Norwich will host Radio 1’s annual flagship event on 23rd and 24th May.
Hosted by Radio 1 DJs, Radio 1’s Big Weekend is the UK’s biggest free ticketed festival and has an unrivalled reputation for attracting live performances from some of the biggest UK and international acts, bringing the nation together for a shared live music moment. Thousands of lucky music fans will be able to enjoy the 2015 event that will be held at Earlham Park - with the majority of the free tickets going to the residents of Norwich and the surrounding area.
Further information about Radio 1’s Big Weekend 2015, including the full line-up and ticketing information will be announced on Radio 1 in the coming months.
Radio 1’s Big Weekend is now in its 12th year and will be produced in partnership with Norwich City Council.
In the lead up to Big Weekend, for the fourth year running, Radio 1 and BBC Learning will also embark on a special week of local engagement and face-to-face activity in the area - opening the doors to Radio 1’s Academy. During the week, Radio 1 hopes to inspire local 16-19 year olds to take the next step in their careers by inviting them to attend a series of radio shows, masterclasses and Q&As. Keep listening to Radio 1 for further details.
Talking about the UK crowd Taylor Swift said: “They are rowdy, insane, in the best way - there seems to be a lot of jumping, which I love. When I think of a UK crowd I think of a sea of people that is moving like an ocean - it’s the most beautiful site you could possibly witness and I can’t wait to come back ... everyone talks about the festivals in England being the best ones you can go to. I feel like I’ve been missing out - I’m really excited.”
Nick Grimshaw says: “I can’t wait to start the festival season with Radio 1’s Big Weekend…there’s always a dream line-up and I can’t wait to see Swifty in Norwich!”
Radio 1’s Big Weekend will be broadcasting live on Radio 1, Radio 1Xtra and streamed in vision at bbc.co.uk/radio1. Highlights will also be broadcast live on BBC Three, with all performances available after the weekend on the Radio 1 channel in BBC iPlayer (bbc.co.uk/tv/radio1).
