Young Guns @ Waterfront, Norwich
A mixed bag at the Waterfront.
Dead! made a great attempt to liven up the crowd by hanging off the brittle pipes of The Waterfront. Their overall dynamic seemed to be a little confused, and lost in the excitement of being on stage. Unfortunately this was not transferred into their songs – a quick glimpse around the room exposed their inability to grasp the attention of the crowd. Given more experience and time for their musical lungs to breathe, their potential could be realised. (5/10)
Using an electric drum kit in combination with amps at full throttle, Nothing But Thieves blared their most recent single, Itch, with vigour. The tempo of their set petered away with each track as they shifted towards playing a collection of songs which were at their core soft and melancholy. Although an odd decision, it allowed those at the front to breathe and enjoy the stench of B.O whilst taking a drink. Towards the end of their set, their nerves must have slipped away as the band members seemed to truly relax in their skin. (7/10)
Moments after Nothing But Thieves, the room was plunged into darkness. There was a sense of excitement in the room and the crowd heaved to the front. The house lights switched on, blinding as ever. Standing tall, Young Guns stepped onto the stage. Their set wove between old classics such as The Weight of The World to Speaking In Tongues, the newest single from their third album. With grins shining bright, all members of the band worked incredibly well together, and effortlessly brought life into a otherwise dead crowd. (9/10)
