Wet Leg
To be honest there probably aren’t many people reading this that haven’t heard of Wet Leg by now. The duo (who only formed in 2019) rocketed to fame after the release of their debut single ‘Chaise Longue’ in 2021. The song went viral almost instantly and was pretty much inescapable on social media for a while, and for good reason. ‘Wet Leg’, their self-titled album, was released in early April this year.
Supporting them was west London artist Lava La Rue, who has just released their second EP Hi-Fidelity. With hip-hop, RnB and rap influences, their set was a real blast, and brought a real great energy to the packed venue. We got treated to an unreleased song, called ‘Somewhere’, and during Angel (which features Deb Never) the guitarist even switched up to a saxophone (and we all know how I feel about a good sax moment at a gig). Lava La Rue was a real treat to see live, and if they ever end up back in Norwich, I’d really recommend seeing them.
With very little wait time Wet Leg entered the stage, wandering on as ‘Concerning Hobbits’ played them in. Kicking it off with ‘Being in Love’ they played a high energy set, barely stopping for breath as they stormed through most of the songs on their new album. ‘Convincing’ was a little more laid back, and reminded my boyfriend of the soundtrack to a Mario water level, while ‘Supermarket’ really leans into the noughties pop-punk vibe that influences many of their tracks. ‘Obvious’ was more lilting and sad, and the whole gig was capped off by a fantastic performance of ‘Chaise Longue’ which enticed the mostly static crowd into a small mosh to bring the show to a head. The whole show was professional, entertaining, and great fun, and one of the best I’ve been to this year. I can’t wait to see what Wet Leg do next, and to hopefully see them back in Norwich soon.
