Tinchy Stryder // The Waterfront - 12.11.12

Tinchy Stryder // The Waterfront - 12.11.12

During his fairly rapid rise onto the music scene in 2009, Tinchy Stryder appeared to be something of an overnight sensation, but the boy was coming in on the back of being a local (East London) ghetto pirate radio star before national stardom beckoned. He had certainly already paid his dues and done the rounds since he started singing in his early teenage years, mixing with the likes of Dizzie Rascal in the process.

He was in 2009, actually the biggest selling male solo artist in the UK, where he also became the first artist ever to reach number one in the official national singles charts with a song title featuring the phrase ‘number one’.

Two years on, now and it’s a barmy warm Autumn Saturday evening and the kids are up for it, ‘Live from Norwich’, it’s the gig of the week (?) and riding out of the maze of the said ghetto and in on the ‘Fine City’ fast track into Norwich, it’s Tinchy Stryder on this his (five venue) short tour, with the word short, being the operative word, it’s basically a ‘Rollercoaster Tour’ of selected venues.

Make some noise for the one and only Tinchy Stryder............... At least the pumping bass, that’s stuck on volume setting 12, keeps me awake throughout the set, just?

It’s hardly ghetto gospel in the name of Grand Master Flash, but tiny Tinchy still has a place in this World today and right now he is taking his chances with both hands and making a real name for himself.

“Okay, No-w-richhhhhhhh, you are me second home”, and yes, we are on his radar we are told several times as being his second favourite City. “Can you feel the love tonight, No-w-richhhhhhhhhh? Yes, we can!

Tinchy is certainly feeling it right now and he is spreading his 5 foot and 1 inch love to us all as he shares some life changing philosophical advice with the crowd? “You gotta regroup and believe, when you are in trouble”, gosh, it all seems so simple, when you have Tinchy in the room, with you (doesn’t it?) and then when he fully engages, we are all away with the fairies and as he hits his ‘Stryderman’, we are fully groove ridden.

Everyone is flying high and feeling good about the star in the hood, right now. Hands up, if you have had a good time, (they are all up again, right now) the vibe is ‘In My System’? Well it’s in Tom’s anyway.

‘Let It Rain’, blares out and it is reigning supreme with BIG love right now for the animated Spiderman ‘Stryderman’ and if the Tinch wants snow for Christmas, then he will probably get his wish?

So make some more noise No-w-richhhhhhhhhh, but don’t forget to turn the bass down, meanwhile, does anyone fancy another ride on the rollercoaster, maybe not??

I guess it’s a ‘Generation’ thing?

Make some noise, for Tinchy Stryder...just don’t try to steal his chains, which someone tries to do as the new song ‘Off The Record’ closes off a very lively and well celebrated evening of non-stop hits.

It was amazing to be in the room, we loved it? Didn’t you Tom?
