The 1975 // Chocolate
The 1975 are hitting the scene hard. Let’s hope their hitting hard enough to get a reaction.
If you’re already a fan of The 1975 you’ll already have heard the song 'Chocolate', the 4th song on their upcoming album. Or even if you’re not a fan, as was the case with me, which left me pretty confused as to how I could find a song familiar from an album that was set to be released in September. The 1975 mix a variety of genres, meaning that this album and their music in general can either go exceedingly right or exceptionally wrong. In my opinion; they smashed it, the diversity of their music allows them to stand out as a band rather than fade into the hum of a specific genre. By morphing genres such as indie music, classic rock and classic pop The 1975 have created their own group specific sound. One of the main things I noticed with this album was how concise the songs were. Only two songs ever exceeded four minutes with the majority staying near the lower end of 3 minutes. This works to add to the jerkiness and fervour of their music, but can also leave you with the feeling of a song unfinished, like it wasn’t really whole. Aside from that, The 1975 have definitely set their standard, and with their beautifully named single 'Sex' already having been released this August The 1975 are hitting the scene hard. Let’s hope they're hitting hard enough to get a reaction.
