Ten Tonnes
Hailing from Hertford, 22 year old Ethan Barnett, known by stage-name Ten Tonnes, has won over many an indie fangirl’s heart playing to packed out arenas supporting the likes of George Ezra and Stereophonics. Off the back of his debut self-titled album, he played to a sold-out Norwich Waterfront Studio.
Ten Tonne’s music embodies a charismatic breeziness, as demonstrated with the cool-kid edge guitar and hip-swinging melody “Cracks Between” that bellowed through the venue. The crunchy sonic textures flickered with an encompassing warmth, yearning for vibrant sunshine. His vocals encapsulated the classic irresistible indie-kid heartbreaker, particularly on the acoustic sickly sweet “Love Me To Death”.
The bouncy tempo and fluttering drums packed an enthusiastic musical sheen throughout the show. However, this energy was not returned by the crowd, which largely let the atmosphere down. The tunes demand revellers to fling themselves into youthful glee, perhaps partaking in the odd mosh or at least a good bounce about. and yet instead many resisted the danceable melodies showing the slightest of swaying. Little in the way of crowd interaction was only a further detriment.
That being said, Ten Tonnes performed with excellent cohesivity with his band filling his set with feel-good, vibrant jams ushering in the brighter days to come. He is sure to ignite more enthusiasm in the gleaming festival fields.
