Cue dramatic film trailer voiceover: 'In a world where your fringe is your dearest possession and Kerrang pullouts still qualify as a legitimate wallpaper choice, four men make it their mission to provide an outlet for your young, brewing angst. And those men were known as Moose Blood'.Rest assured, this isn't meant as a reductive comment. It's just the kind of universe in which what the Canterbury quartet do makes sense to me. Plugging in after excellent support Choir Vandals, the crowd feels a little flat as MB decide to open up with Pups. It's probably not what I would have chosen but headlining a tour for the first time with just the material from one record will make song placement a challenge for any band. After this, though, they shift on through the gears, hitting a convincing level once the airing of Bukowski reels in more participation from those pressed to the fore, flinging their arms into the air and yelling lyrics about sweaters back at frontman Eddy Brewerton. This is where this stuff feels right. Indulge me a little sentimentality, folks, because in my head I'm seventeen again and tearing towards sunset in a dodgy old Ford Fiesta to this soundtrack. Ripping through a shuffled version of their debut album, I'll Keep You In Mind, From Time To Time, the guys aren't about to win spades of acclaim for technical brilliance. But their bright, frenetic stories about young love and fucking up are full of spirit and vivacity where it counts. I know that the girls in band tees and the three guys nodding furiously along in unison in identical woollen hats would agree. Finishing up with the track Boston - containing a tiny reference to Brand New that catches me right in the chest - it just feels like a job well bloody done. This is the just the start for Moose Blood. I'm pretty intrigued about where they'll be going from here. Now if you'll excuse me I've got to go attack my walls with blu tac and a music mag.
