Doctor Strange

After a car accident robs him of the use of his hands, brilliant yet arrogant neurosurgeon Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) is led to the mystical Ancient One (Tilda Swinton) in search of a cure for his wounds, and soon finds himself fighting to protect the world. It's very CGI heavy and the world bending effects lack a real weight or sense, but it has convincing performances from an impressive cast and is a solid introduction of a new character into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them

Magizoologist Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) must capture a number of magical creatures that are loose in 1920s New York, before their presence causes problems in the already tense relationship between the magical and non-magical communities. Whilst not as good as the Harry Potter movies, this fits into the established world nicely and manages to be entertaining enough for muggles and wizards alike.

A United Kingdom

Botswanan Prince, Seretse Khama (David Oyelowo) causes an international stir in the 1940s when he marries his love, Ruth Williams (Rosamund Pike), a white woman from London. Oyelowo is fantastic as always in the lead, and director Amma Asante delivers a powerful and moving tale of love and acceptance in what could have easily been mawkish Oscar fodder.

Lone Wolf and Cub - The Criterion Collection

Shogun's executioner Itto Ogami (Tomisaburo Wakayama) wanders the countryside with his infant son Daigoro (Akihiro Tomikawa) helping those in need and seeking vengeance for his murdered wife. All six of the cult classic Samuraisploitation films as well as Shogun Assassin, the re-edit of the first two films, have been beautifully restored in high definition with an entire babycart full of new documentaries and interviews.
