Kormac - Doorsteps
I was continuously surprised throughout all 43 minutes.
The first track on what I can only describe as Kormac’s latest masterpiece sets us up to be continuously surprised throughout all 43 minutes. He surprises us first with big band trumpets, then throws in industrial style beats, ambient drum and bass and beautiful spoken word to keep us hooked throughout its entirety. I thoroughly enjoyed this whole album, and since listening to it have been dreaming of seeing a Kormac show hit Norwich. He’s been known to play live with a 10 piece big band and is renowned for creating a sense-tingling audio and visual show. Kormac and his band have played main stages at festivals like Glastonbury, Bestival, and Electric picnic, and listening to the album puts me right back in a field surrounded by people who have been bathing in glitter for the past 3 days. Now, let's not overlook the amazing feature artists on this album; not just the innocent, ambient vocals from the likes of Bajka and Vyvienne Long, but also plenty of great hip-hop from MC Little Tree, Koaste and fab female vocals from Speech Debelle. I'd also highlight the breath-taking spoken word from Micah P Hinson and the forever brilliant Irvine Welsh. This album is genius; I love it. If you were to ask me to pick my favourite track, I would struggle to pick a clear winner as they are all fantastic in so many different ways, and styles. I will definitely be buying several copies of this album for Christmas gifts!
