Interview with Local Band - Swarmed
Up and coming scream metal band SWARMED are ditching sleepy Wymondham for rock and roll infamy ...
In the sleepy Norfolk town of Wymondham, there is a peaceful community of dog walkers, flower shops, church bell ringers and afternoon tea-goers.
Oh there’s also Swarmed, a metal/scream collective making rock and roll waves and they are really interrupting the peace. I have the pleasure of being friends with lead singer,Lee Margaillan and guitarist, Danny Heard so immediately get the ‘I’m with the band’ privileges to their growing number of intimate Norwich-based gigs. With a new manager, gigs booked up, recording studio time AND a music video soon, I’ve barely had time to catch up with Lee, Danny or the rest of the Swarmed boys.
When I finally caught lead singer Lee for two seconds, I asked him some quickfire questions about Swarmed-
A question I always like to ask from my favourite film Almost Famous- What do you love about music? We love the passion and creativity music delivers. Especially, from the bands we grew up listening to and because of the variety of music we all listen to as individuals, it widens our range to create more interesting and diverse songs.
Why did you want to get into music ? Why anybody wants to... We want to be a band that people hear and think "That's an awesome band!" and love listening to us, on CD or live. The bands we are influenced by are a massive factor to why we wanted to do this because we see them live, see the response the crowd gives them and we want that!
What's swarmed up to right now?At the moment, we are taking some time to rehearse with our newest addition to the band, Karl. He is a great guitarist and having played a couple of showswith him already, we know he will help us mature as a band. On top of the rehearsing, we have new songs on the way that we cannot wait to unveil!
What's the plan for the future? We have a lot planned for 2014 that includes a tonne of live shows, our first CD, music videos and a possible tour! Whatever happens for us in the future, we always make sure we enjoy what we do and hope that the metal fans out there who hear us will enjoy it just as much as we do!
Last time I saw them was their mind blowing set at Metal Lust Bloodstock battle of the bands at The Waterfront where, despite coming in second, Swarmed totally stole the show with their setlist of brutal heavy metal sound. Starting the set with No Rest, I’m not going to lie but they are not sing-a-long pop songs. Lee’s own brand of energetic metal scream gets the whole audience moshing and letting loose from the first note. These guys are old school rock and roll, their sets are messy, sweaty and violent- just the way we love it.
Personal favourite, Priceless really brought The Waterfront to attention and you could see anime style love hearts in the audiences eyes as the set ended with 2012 - everyone thinking, ‘This band is gonna be HUGE’.
And they are. Watch this space.
