I would like to start this by saying how much I absolutely love tequila shots and that when this place is open I will be going there, dragging Tyler with me if I can, for as many as we can handle until we pass out in a corner and then stumble home.
When I first saw the take away menu for Gringos, the first bit I checked out was the drinks section and low and behold they have bottles of tequila on the menu for take away. YES. Being sensible and having to do the review mid-week meant we decided to not get rat-arsed and ended up settling for a 4 pack of Desperados (£14.00). Having sold out of Desperados, we ended up with two Budweiser – these are not on the menu so I am unsure of the price but if you are a fan of this then I am sure you can get some if you ask nicely when placing your order.
Tyler had the Chipotle Fried Chicken Tacos (2 for £7.50). As all tacos are, these came tapas sized, so if you want to just eat tacos, order a lot. Its unclear if you can mix and match tacos but this is definitely high on my list of favorite things to do. In hindsight I should have tried a Vegan Fried Tofu Tacos (2 for £8.00) and a Vegan Jackfruit Taco (2 for £7.00).

Tyler then had the non-vegan option of classic nachos, but without the Salsa or Jalapenos (£4.00). The plus side of these is that they are only £4.00, but you get what you pay for and if you are ordering these to take home, I would suggest having ingredients to pimp the nachos out with. Despite the fear of a sudden heart attack, when we got this home, bacon, halloumi, hot sauce, olives and cheese were all added to this dish – highly recommended.
I had the vegan option of Vegan BBQ Jackfruit Nachos (£7.50). Not going to lie – I don’t think vegan mayonnaise has a place on Nachos and there was no vegan grated cheese to be seen. However, luckily I had some vegan cheese in the fridge, which I added before eating along with some olives.

We also had a Pot of Cool Tomato Salsa (£1.00) on the side, if you love the salsa you get at the movies with nachos, you will like this as it is basically the same. We also had a pot of Homemade Guacamole (£1.50), honestly as both an avocado and a guacamole lover I was not impressed. The guacamole was brown, it looked as if a big tub of premade guacamole that had sat out in Chiquito’s had some avocado cut up into it, then it being called homemade and was portioned out that morning ready for the evening and turning brown in the process. This made me sad, but quickly we moved on to the beer and all was right in the world again.
Overall I would give the menu a 6/10 as there is a good balance of options for both vegans and meat-eaters. For the food itself, I do regret not trying the vegan tacos as Tyler liked his but the nachos were a bit disappointing before we added ingredients so I would have to say this too was a 6/10. The fact they are doing take away bottles of Tequila however has totally won me over and for this I would say they deserve a 9/10 for the drinks menu. It is also really easy to order online and all the staff seemed really nice and helpful.
