Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly. - Young Adults
Having not listened to these guys properly since I was introduced to them in 2010 as a fresh faced Fresher, I was sceptical as to whether the older, less fresh faced version of me would be as willing to receive this kind of album. Interestingly though it turns out that as well as being a really well rounded collection of great tracks, is actually really reflective of my thoughts and feelings of becoming a “Young Adult” myself. It would appear that since 2010 these guys have grown up a bit as well!
The sound is far more polished, relaxed and free flowing than some of their previous work and as a result the album makes for a really easy and pleasant listen. There were a number of tracks that stuck in my head after only hearing them a couple of times; the catchy rhythms and heartfelt lyrics together create such a genuine and meaningful sound.
I particularly enjoyed “Always”, “VHS Forever” and the opening track “Adults”, which has the perfect serene build up with an uplifting crescendo that you can’t help smile along to. Sam Duckworth has most certainly rallied the troops and come out swinging with this one.
Go listen to it and relish in reminding yourself of your misspent youth and the fact that being the wrong end of 20 maybe isn’t so bad after all… just me…?
