Frank Turner @ the Waterfront

I’m itching to experience it all over again

Frank Turner @ the Waterfront

With an hour and 15 minute set consisting of only him, his guitar, and an Owl Sanctuary t shirt, Frank Turner conjured up something special among his Norwich fans last night.

The crowd of dedicated, tour t-shirt wearing fans matched his voice the whole way through with passionate and beer fuelled singing, often calling out remarks to which Frank jokily replied. Communicating with the audience the whole way through, his incredibly engaging stage presence made it obvious that he has been performing for years. One moment he would endearingly admit to messing up a song he hadn’t played in a while, and then make the audience laugh with covers of Bat Out of Hell and Somebody to Love. He also gave the heart-breaking tale behind Song for Josh, a song that prompted a few tears and sniffs from the people around me. His set ranged from early songs that he admitted he had to practise because it had been so long, to the songs from his new album such as Next Storm and Josephine, reminding people they need to give the album a few more listens.

As someone who has never seen Frank Turner live before I feel like I’ve learnt a lot about his music and him as a performer and I’m itching to experience it all over again.
