Collapse The Sky - Se7en Eyes

“Holy shit”. Within the first five seconds of Love To Hate that is what came to mind. And that is all that filled my mind for the next five minutes until the opening track came to a growling finish. For the first song, on a band's first album, a band that have been a band for no more than a year, this can only be a good thing. As Collapse The Sky are competing in Metal 2 The Masses to win a spot at Bloodstock, it’s no surprise that they are ‘heavy as fuck’, to coin a phrase. Some bands can let the desire to be ‘heavy as fuck’ get in the way of writing decent songs, but thankfully these Norwich boys don’t seem to have that problem. They always remain in control of the thundering rage they’re creating and despite the growling, screaming vocals the lyrics are still very much discernible (something very much underrated by growling, screaming singers). Just when the tracks start to sound like they might get samey, the vocals are levelled with melodic backing, or a beatdown drops to a low-key solo, or the song halts altogether, keeping the listener actually, y’know, listening. Collapse The Sky have got potential. Potential and a fucking good debut.
