We Are Catchers // We Are Catchers
Musical serenity drenched in happiness.
Melancholia and happiness often go hand in hand. When you get your hands on a music group that succeeds in combining these two feelings to a subliminal sound, you can be sure you’ve found one to remember.
That is which feeling We Are Catchers’ debut EP drags out of you. Their songs express the same kind of serenity the album cover betrays. A mixture of jazz and pop, drenched in the terrific lyrical soup of its composer, Peter Jackson. This leads up to a marvelous album that’s definitely a must-have for the calm-minded. Not that adrenaline freaks won’t enjoy it. As soon as the first tones of the album’s opener, ‘Waters Edge’, come out of the speakers you calm down and get in the mood of lying down and immersing yourself in the music. Another number that will definitely catch your attention would be Isabella. This nicely written, rhythmical sound gives a great summary of what We Are Catchers has to offer: honest music, carried on the tones of a piano and supported by a lovely voice.
Another pearl on this album would be its seventh track. ‘If I fell’ feels like a well-placed climax of sincere happiness, only to fade out again at the next song, ‘Thousand steps’, a beautiful ballad that makes realize the full potential of this composer. Of course, the medal always has a back end. How much we even like the piano that gets woven underneath every song, the tones remain the same. The implementation of other, more varied instruments would be a welcome variation.
We Are Catchers’ music lends itself perfectly to fill up the silence while you’re home alone. A very enjoyable, professional made album that succeeds in combining dozens of emotions to an unique sound. An overload of piano’s, yes, but at the same time it gets an overload of emotions out of you once you’ve put it on.
