Pottery - Welcome To Bobby’s Motel
The full-length album by Pottery, Welcome to Bobby’s Motel is infectious from the get go. Welcome to Bobby’s Motel, follows from their first release No. 1. A record only 27 minutes long, that blended the best of dance music, and rock shown by tracks like “Hank Williams” an example of dance rock at it’s best. Pottery is the freshest sound from Montreal, and this record sets to bleed sounds that echo percussive vocals and jangly guitars, perfect for anyone trying to discover new guitar music that is danceable and easy to sing to; no nonsense.
The album blends the said jangly guitars of post-punk, think Gang of Four and Parquet Courts, with drawing lonesome sounds americana. This new album, set for release on 26th June (pushed forward from April 10th) shall serve as some comfort to what appears to be a drabb summer. The band, signed to Partisan Records (Westerman and IDLES) have released three singles ahead of its release “Take Your Time”, “Hot like Jungle” and the highly energetic, “Texas Drums, Pt I&II” a track that plays exactly what it says, it's almost a homage to the important role of drums.
Something bound to be ambiguous about this is who is Bobby? And why does he have a motel? It is perhaps ironic that with a record full of energy to have Motels, symbols of pitiful despair in the title, but like motels, they reveal a lot more than meets the eye. As to who Bobby is, the band leave you guessing, it is perhaps the listener themselves. But Bobby is most likely just a bearded lumberjack, falling on hard times. The sound of this record might invent a new genre: lumberjack rock. This record is set to be an infectious riot of energy, a cure for the isolation blues.
