Pali Erz @ Moosey Art
Full of proud, bold and punchy pieces
This was another impressive show put together by Moosey to showcase the work of Pali Erz. An array of caricatures and cartoons, the show was a strong tribute to childhood inspirations, street style and ancient technical skill.
A mix of spray paint and acrylic on perspex, the show was full of proud, bold and punchy pieces. Colour burst from the walls and stunning three piece and four piece collections shone from the white walls. The show was crisp and clean in its execution, minimalistic and polished which seemed to emulate the artist’s own style. Amid the square profiles of famous heroes; stood two collections titled Various Drawings. These two collections in particular are worth a look, their simplicity makes them quite beautiful and quaint. Delicate white frames make them stand out and it suited the modernist approach of the exhibition well. The show is fun, captures an idyllic lost youth and demonstrates the importance of youth and childhood experience in shaping who we will go on to become. Pali had a long break from practicing his talent and it appeared that this show was important for him to celebrate his return by showing his audience the things that sent him down this path in the first place. I think it is a strong show that speaks to the child within us all, and does so whilst also expressing skill, talent and vast knowledge. The techniques and mediums he uses to present his work involve much practice.
The other thing to enjoy about this show is that it captures the balance between the worlds of gallery art and that on the streets. Both are usually two very separate industries and they possess a history where neither have been the kindest or most accepting of one another. It is refreshing to walk in a place where both origins of the art world are honoured and have been combined to create a very interesting space to explore.
For me the show is worth a visit to find that part of yourself in adulthood that never truly let go of the people we all wanted to be when we were younger. The comedy, colour and pose of Pali’s work are engaging, interactive and stirring. Moosey Gallery are going from strength to strength; booked out now for the next few months, there are going to be plenty more opening nights. With their new side bar opening it is a definite recommendation of mine to go and visit. There is no better way to celebrate art than with flowing wine.
The show will run until the 12th December. The gallery is open Tuesday through to Saturday, from 11.00am until 6.00pm.
