Jamie T - Trick
The opening track of Jamie T’s fourth album is the single Tinfoil Boy, with a gradual build up towards the sudden drop into the chorus which feels like the best rollercoaster in the country. With a slightly electronic tuned voice, Police Tapes is the kind of track you feel rebellious listening to, fuelled by protest vibes. The album turns back to a more fun arena with Dragon Bones. ‘If I were a God, I’d blow my brains out’. Soloman Eagle has a harsher tone and is impossible not to nod along to, even when listening for the first time. Its dark lyrics are a perfect match to its dark tone. Crossfire Love is a fine example of the catchy rap which Jamie T does so well. The closing track, Self Esteem encapsulates a depressing, dreary tone - it’s a good come-down ending track but leaves a lingering depressive taste which may not reflect the whole album. Overall, once again Jamie T has not failed to impress, and his unmistakable uniqueness has not been lost. Nevertheless, although all individual tracks are extremely good, the cohesiveness of the whole album is questionable.
