Frank Turner - Positive Songs for Negative People

With an impressive five albums already under his collective belt, Frank Turner’s Positive Songs for Negative People is an album that will have you struggling to sit still. A decade down the line his vocals have developed a more refined energetic intensity, but he still manages to hold on to the raw excitement that we have come to expect from this folk-rock singer. The album opens with The Angel Islington; a song that epitomises the beautifully vulnerable qualities that can also be found in his voice, whilst songs such as The Opening Act of Spring is folky and fun and feels almost celebratory among the shouts of positivity. The addition of female vocals in Silent Key also provide a highlight as they feel incredibly refreshing and compliment his voice wonderfully. The album ends with Song for Josh; the poignant and moving tale of loss and loneliness that illustrates Frank Turner’s unique ability to unapologetically express the personal in his songs. This is an album that still retains the same vibrant air of promise and youth that you might find in a debut, filling us with hope that we can expect much more from Frank Turner.
