Frank Carter and the Rattlesnakes - Modern Ruin
From the chaotic punk behemoth that was Gallows, to the upbeat rock ballads of Pure Love, Frank Carter has established himself as one of the most energetic and aggressive front-men of the last decade. Modern Ruin, The Rattlesnakes’ second studio album encapsulates beautifully the growing maturity of Frank as an artist, as well as maintaining the angst driven themes and bellicose delivery his fans crave. The slow dreamy intro Bluebelle is soon put to bed by the crunching riff of Lullaby, a track dedicated to his baby daughter. Next is Snake Eyes, the strongest track on the album featuring a majestic performance from Frank whose vocals on the entire album are simply sublime. Other stand out tracks include Vampires, WildFlowers and God Is My Friend. The penultimate track Modern Ruin is a fantastic throwback to Frank’s Gallows days, suggesting in his delivery that he needed to get one last cacophonous ear piercing screaming of hate out of his system. All in all, a strong album from a band that really means business.
