Femme De - Hex Friends - Cheap Teeth
Wild Paths day 2 and it just gets better and better
After a summer of heat waves and festivals it is finally that time of year where the cooler nights are setting in and Wild Paths Festival begins. Although I am from Norwich, I do love what the city has to offer and seeing a group of bands, pubs and influential people all come together is quite special to witness. Wild Paths is an independent music festival and has been running since 2019. The Festival takes over some of our stunning venues across the city for 6 days; From St Laurence Church to Last Pub Standing, Wild Paths has you covered for an array of quirky locations, even the Millennium Library will be hosting some of the Wild Path performances.
Tonight, I am at Voodoo Daddys Showroom to see Femme De, Hex Friends and Cheap Teeth. With your Wild Paths wristband, you have the incredible choice of food vendors around the city such as Avo Burrito, Soul Kitchen, and Moorish. As we are at Voodoo’s though, we thought it would be pizza for our pre-gig munch, but controversially we tried the nachos. Oh wow! They did not disappoint.
Femme De kicked off the night. James, Clem, Samuel, and Alex got the audience pumped up for the night ahead. The drums and guitars were insane! Although a newer band, they really knew how to perform and get the crowd going.
Hex Friends were on after, at 9pm. I had interviewed the band earlier in the week prior to this show, so I was really looking forward to seeing them live. They blew us away. When speaking to me earlier in the week Josie mentioned about a new song they might play and they did, it was their first time performing ‘Revive Me’. I loved it, the audience loved it, and you could tell the band loved it too. Josie prewarned us that they may ”f*** it up”, but they didn’t (well not to our knowledge). The highlight of their performance was their song ‘Kinky Promises’, the crowd screamed when the band said they were going to sing it. It’s a firm favourite of a lot of people. After their set, I got a chance to meet the band actually in person and it was so lovely to meet such passionate musicians, who really do just love to play music.
Finally, Cheap Teeth were on, at this point upstairs was packed as they were one of Wild Paths headlining acts of the week. Although I had not heard of them previously, I do love to expose myself to new music and with 24K monthly listeners on Spotify I knew they were going to be good. The four-piece band from Edinburgh bring a mix to the table, with a bit of garage-rock and punk influences, there was something for everyone. What really struck me from the set is how different they are to just the “normal” boy-band, they bring something so different with their music, voices, personality, and stage presence; it was so refreshing to see.
Overall, the second night of Wild Paths was of course, amazing and I thoroughly look forward to what the rest of the week holds. The Wild Paths team have done unbelievably well organising such a festival with the amazing support of local Norwich businesses too.
