Caravan Palace // Panic

A great clash between the music scene of now and then.

Caravan Palace // Panic

Do you know that kind of music your gramps listens to? You know, the old-school jazzy stuff that could feature as the background score for an early 30s Mickey Mouse cartoon? You might not want to admit it, but actually it sounds lovely. Too bad it’s outdated now. Or is it? The French band Caravan Palace blows new life into this underrated genre by bringing it to the 21st century, now updated and accompanied by kick-ass beats. Oh, and just in case you can’t analyse my overly enthusiastic writing about this, believe you me, the result is stunning.

The reason why this album blows you away is the perfect balance Caravan Palace has found between old-school genres as swing and jazz, and electro. The sound they produce, defined as electro-swing, might be something you’ve just never heard before. This album might bring you redemption to the rushed-minded. A musical clash between old and new, which makes sure both generations can enjoy it. If you can’t quite imagine what these guys sound like, perhaps you should open YouTube or Spotify and just give their song ‘Panic’ a listen. The moment the first tones come out, you’ll get it. It feels familiar and totally new at the same time. A theatrical comeback of long forgotten genres to our time. Boyo, we’ve missed them.

This band will be playing at Bestival next summer, and have the reputation of being incredible live. They caught our eye, ear and interest. Let’s just see how many others they’ll be able to convince after their gig. I bet the applause will be terrific.
