Bastette - Exposed

Bastette - Exposed

Now and again you stumble across something that takes you by surprise, and may well have missed without someone recommending it to you. This is one such occasion, it’s just a shame it’s an EP. Those that read my reviews often will know that I am always left wanting when reviewing Eps. They’remore of a starter than a main course.

That said, this is a bloody good EP, and yes I was left wanting more, much more in fact. I would say that the music fall into the pure and simple, straight up, classic rock, and that’s no bad thing, and it’s light enough to fall into the pop category. Caroline’s vocals are strong enough to stand out on their own, and influences from the likes of Amy Lee, Lzzy Hale and Taylor Momsen are evident, but not overly so.

What you get on this EP are five positively anthemic tracks, with massive choruses, and your feet are moving long before you actually realise it. The lead single “Talk About It” can stand up alongside Evanescence’s “Bring Me to Life” and Halestorm’s “Here’s to Us” and that’s some fine company to keep. The rest of the tracks on the EP are equally as good, and whether you’d class them as pop/rock or classic rock is up to you. There are no frills attached, and it’s that simplicity that draws you in.

In these days of streaming, you don’t often have to part with your crinkly bits of plastic, but this EP is well worth the money to own, but that aside, it’s well worth taking the time to listen to it, especially if you enjoy the lighter side of rock music. Personally, I loved it, but of course that’s irrelevant. Musically, lyrically, and structurally, I can’t really fault it. In fact my only issue is that there are only five tracks…. I’venow got an appetite for more of the same.

8/10
