Tonight we present a triple-bill at The Holloway, Norwich - an album launch for the trio iteration of 'In My Experience', led by trumpeter Chris Dowding and featuring spoken word by honor ash and the ethereal guitar playing of Steve Appleton...
'In My Experience' came from translating short poems into musical notes using a borrowed alphabet system. The soundworld that emerged from this process includes shifting melodies, hypnotic patterns and abstract beats. Whilst the project will still be solo (or duo) at times, it has been extended to include honor and Steve. They launch their new EP 'circling' with a very limited bunch of hand-assembled CDs.
some things is the 'arresting brass duo' of trumpeter Chris Dowding and tuba player Ben Higham. Their new setup includes pedals, merged into sparse composed materials, and the occasional obscure piece from the jazz repertoire. Opening the night will be a solo tuba set by Ben, which will no doubt seamlessly shift into the duo set. Ben leads the 'improvising brass band' The Brass Monkeys, as well as the pianoless quintet Monk Inc.. Chris Dowding also performs with the quartet Rude 2.0 with trombonist Annie Whitehead and both play in the improvising trio Hard Edges.
